How To Get To La Rioja, Spain
La Rioja is one of Spain’s northern provinces, renowned for its hilly, historic villages and renowned wine region. Logroño, the capital of La Rioja, serves as an excellent base for exploring the rest of the region. It is also worth a visit due to its historic old town and abundance of cafes serving delicious tapas and pintxos. With direct buses, trains, and roads leading to Logroño, La Rioja is easily accessible.
From Bilbao

Duration: 1.5 – 2.5 hours
La Rioja’s northern neighbour is the Basque Country, whose largest city is Bilbao. It is straightforward to travel between the two, allowing for a day trip from Bilbao. The fastest way to reach La Rioja is by rental or private car. The route follows the AP-68 highway from Bilbao to Miranda de Ebro via the south and east directions. You will reach Logroño approximately 1.5 hours later.

La Rioja and Logroño are well-connected to the capital of Spain. Following the A2/N111 highways north and east for approximately three and a half hours is the quickest method of travel. On the way, you will pass by the historic towns of Sigüenza and Soria, both of which merit a stop.

The longest option is to go by bus. There are a handful of direct departures each day, arriving in La Rioja in about 6-6.5 hours.

Once in Logroño, the best way to explore the picturesque province of La Rioja is by car.
